Riggers


Currently scull boats can be equipted with six types of riggers and sweep boats with 4 types of riggers. The riggers are manufactured of aluminium and of carbon fibre according to the needs and requirements of rowers to maximize their rowing experience.

Aluminium standard riggers

The aluminum riggers are the first ones produced by our company and fit on whichever requirements. Their structure can be with 3 (scull) or 4 (sweep) tubes equipped with a supplementary tube (backstay), pivoted on the oarlock, to avoid the torsion of the rigger. The truss has the advantage of standing strong loadings and of securing a long life.

In particular this rigger offers an important background since it has been performed during years and today is absolutely reliable in terms of quality mechanical features and stiffness. Even in case of clashes or breaks, it’s possible to repair it at a low cost. It makes the aluminum rigger very appreciated in the rowing clubs where a boat is considered as an investment.

Very simple the adjustment of the oarlock, using the buttonhole and the drillings of attachment to the boat. This versatility allows you to use this rigger for different rowers without particular adjustments.



Aluminium wing riggers - Italia/S

The wing rigger allows a minor solicitation of the boat because of the fixing system we’re using. In fact the profile of the boat remains the same, during the stroke because there are less solicitations. The elastic energy will be obtained by the deformation of the rigger (aluminum can be deformed) but this is a small a problem because the return of this force will go always in the direction of the motion of the boat. In order to improve the stiffness we have chosen a particular shape of rigger: the part from the boat to the oarlock is conical, the internal part of the boat is cylindrical. The part of the tube on the boat isn’t perfectly transversal in comparison with the direction stern-bow but lightly inclined to unload in a right way forces on both sides of the boat. The adjustments for the span and for moving the oarlock towards the bow are easy to be done thanks to the holes on the boats and to the buttonhole at the end of the rigger.



Aluminum wing Training boats

This rigger available in the version for sweep and scull was born as a first approach to the wing system .It has been built by a reticular structure consisted of tubes with circular section which are disposed on an horizontal and parallel plane to the water, they are excellent in terms of stiffness and mechanical resistance. The rigger connections are leaned on the gunwale and it improuves the unloading system of the forces on the boat.The dimension of the tubes and the width of the leaning plane offer an excellent stiffness.



Carbon tubular riggers

Sweeping and sculling carbon tubular riggers have been made to get the maximum result in terms of energetic transfer from rower to oar. The search of materials, their geometry and balance as well, has been made to satisfy the demands of the rowers who want to take the greatest possible advantage of their power.
The profile of the carbon consists of a truss with two tubes fully in carbon, one as support of the other and one operating in compression. To the end of the tube of compression we secured, with a spherical joint, an hilt (or “C”) fully built in carbon as well; inside of it we inserted a pin in special stainless steel around which the oarlock turns.

The presence of a spherical joint allows to get infinite adjustments as for the lateral pitch, in addition to the possibility of adjusting span and height. The development of the a.m. truss bases itself on the possibility of concentrating the pushing on the rigger in compression in order to transmit the strength in the direction of advancement. In that way it’s possible to eliminate the accumulation of elastic energy which makes the truss of the aluminium riggers be liable to deformations.

Our riggers distinguish themselves for the innovation of the production system.
In fact this technology, which uses pre-preg fabrics and autoclave at high pressure, makes these riggers be better than those one you can find on the market. This method allowed to get mechanical features which were unthinkable in the past.

By the high pressure, the fabrics will be perfectly bounded, assuring a long life of the tube and performing also the distribution of the loadings among the fibres. That means an increasing of endurance and stiffness and a reduction of the volumes of the resin in comparison with the fibres.



Carbon scull wing rigger

The new version of the modular carbon scull wing rigger distinguishes for a wide adjustment of the span which can be got by sliding the right and left sides of the profile and using the range from cm.157 to 163 cm indicated on the scale. If the two modulus of the rigger, made lighter and stiffer than the previous one, are separated they can easily be transported or stored . It is very simple to move the oarlock towards bow by a total of 6 cm. In order to orientate the pin you can get advantages of the system patented as “Pitch Infinity” which allows all the possible adjustments of the pitch of the pin as we have already tested in the sweep version during the last edition of Worlds.



Carbon sweep wing rigger

The new carbon sweep wing rigger is the last rigger option launched by Filippi and it has already met the interest of athletes and coaches, impressed by its versatility. New sweep carbon rigger has considerable differences in comparison with the aluminium version. Our developments privileged the choice of material with aeronautical origin but the main innovation is the possibility to adjust the lateral pitch of the rigger.

The main advantages of the new rigger are the following ones:
*The structure is completely in carbon with a layering developed to optimize 
the stiffness of the rigger at the critical points.
*The rigger is perfectly symmetric and it will be easy and fast to move it from side to side
at the same seat position.
*The locking system of the rigger allows infinitive adjustments of the span.
*It’s possible to move the rigger towards bow by a pitch of cm.2 as in the aluminium rigger.
*Lateral pitch can be modulated infinitely with the new adjusting system named PITCHINFINITY©.



Aliante scull back wing carbon rigger

Aliante, the new carbon sculling wing rigger, working in compression, is placed behind the rower’s back and is the natural evolution of this type of configuration. Something more than the shift from the 3 - 4 stay standard aluminium rigger to the tubular carbon one.

Aliante, according to our tests is about 30% more resistant to the loadings than the previous wing rigger. Since the rigger is not fitted with backstay you could think that the riggers could bend vertically. That doesn’t happen because the direction of the rigger absorbs the vertical component of the loading. In order to get this performance, the rigger has been designed in order to ensure, in any direction, the maximum section and so the maximum resistance.

Aliante uses an adjusting system similar to the tubular carbon one. But here it’s possible to adjust the span with a simple 3 bolt control. The carbon hilt (or “C”) is similar to the tubular carbon one as well, giving the opportunity of innumerable adjustments to the pin’s pitch. The adjustment of the oarlock, towards the bow is like the classic wing rigger one: + 2,+4,+6 cm. from the working line. The height by cm.2 is allowed by the washers placed inside the carbon hilt. By simple wedges to be inserted on the gunwale, you can adjust the height over cm. 2.
